Ayodhya peaceful amid unprecedented security cover

AYODHYA, Dec 6: With the prohibitory orders in force and unprecedented security cover in the twin cities of Ayodhya-Faizabad following an advisory issued by central intelligence agencies, peace prevailed in the temple town with no untoward incident reported till late afternoon on Wednesday.
Most of the shops and business establishments remained closed during the day.
Except for some programmes organised by a few organisations, the situation in the temple city remained peaceful on the 25th anniversary of the demolition of a disputed structure.
The Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) held a programme at its headquarters, Karsevekpuram, and Muslims offered special prayers at the mosques.
VHP observed the day as ‘shaurya diwas’ (bravery day) while Muslim organisations observed the day as ‘yaum-e-gham (day of sorrow) and yaum-e-syaah (black day).
Faizabad district magistrate Anil Pathak said here that the situation was totally normal though strict vigil was being maintained.
The entire district was divided into four zones and further in to 10 sectors where four zonal magistrates, 10 sector magistrates and 14 assistant sector magistrates were deployed.
Pathak said that elaborate security had been made in and around the disputed structure where 12 companies of central forces along with 400 constables, one platoon of woman commandos, were deployed.
VHP spokesperson Sharad Sharma said that VHP along with the Bajrang Dal and other Hindu organisations were holding programmes throughout the country in support of construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
He said seers and people from far and near who attended the VHP programme at Karsevekpuram, pledged for early resolution of the Ayodhya dispute so that Ram temple could be constructed as early as possible.
The programme was attended by Ram Janambhoomi Nyas chairperson Nritya Gopal Das, former MP and VHP leader Ram Vilas Vedanti and several other seers.
The Parishad also remembered the people who sacrificed their lives during the Ram temple movement on the banks of Saryu. Shiv Sena state president Anil Singh, too, was in Ayodhya on the day. Singh first went to the Paramhans Ramchandra Das’s memorial on the banks of river to pay his tribute and later had a darshan of Ram Lalla.
Indian Muslim League state president Dr Najmul Hasan Gani said Muslims observed the day as a protest day by offering special prayers in the mosques. (UNI)
