JAMMU, Mar 10: All State Kashmiri Pandit Conference (ASKPC) held an Executive Committee meeting, under the chairmanship of its President Advocate Ravinder Raina, here today.
While taking stock of the prevailing political situation in the State, the members expressed anguish over the State Government’s clandestine move to sponsor and influence some proposed movie on plight of the exiled Kashmiri Pandits.
The members said that it was noted with dismay that an official circular was issued by the Relief Organization, which is pouring insult on the Kashmiri Pandit community as they have been instructed to serve as a fodder material to the movie by filling a prescribed form for the purpose and remain stuck to the management and crew of this movie the whole day in order to receive Rs 850 per person per day.
The members said that the disparaging treatment with intention to humiliate and dishonour the community was telecast on various TV channels, adding that it was astonishing to see treatment meted out to exiled community at the behest of the State Govt.
They further said that the concerned Deputy Commissioner’s statement on camera that there was nothing wrong in it that unskilled labourers they were (KPs) to get more than usually paid was shell-shocking.
The meeting said that the Deputy Commissioner would never have dared such a statement unless asked by the Govt and the Producer/Director of the proposed movie.
ASKPC strongly condemned the attitude of treating the community members in such a manner as if being the second class citizens of the State.
The members made it clear that there was no need to show the plight of Kashmiri Pandits in exile and termed it as commercialization of the exile.
The members strongly objected Dr Farooq Abdullah’s statement that the movie does not amount to any insult and warned the Producer and the people associated with him to not to dare go ahead with the movie.
Prominent among others who voiced their concern included RK Wangnoo, Prof Satish Bhan, CL Bhat, Dr TK Bhat, Veena Gurtoo, Ravi Raina, BL Handoo and SK Raina.
