The protesters said that they being the residents of J&K, Punjab and HP were recruited at Cantt. Area Pathankot, Udhampur and Akhnoor as army civilian porters after clearing medical test and other formalities for this purpose.
The Union representatives said during Kargil war (Operation Vijay) from the year 1999 to 2002 the porters served in most difficult terrain in Kargil area of the J&K along with regular army troops. During this period 10 porters lost their lives in the war while serving the nation. The Government gave financial help and job to martyred porters families, they added.
They said but rest of all the porters are since then waiting for their engagement as per the assurances given to them and promises made by the Government as well as the authorities. After the war the authorities again assured the porters that they will be given the job and handed over certificates to every one assuring the preference in Government job keeping in view their service to nation in hour of need.
Maintaining that they feel proud to be the part of the war team but at the same time they are perturbed after having been neglected being the only bread earners of their respective families.
The porters said that they served their motherland in the hour of need but it is unfortunate to say that the Government framed the policies for the rehabilitation and Government job to the surrendered militants who are involved in criminal and anti national activities. But no attention is being paid towards them despite the fact that they served the nation during the hour of crisis. They said it is a serious matter that in India the militants get the government job who are hell bent on destroying the nation but those ready to lay down their lives for nation are not considered for a Government job.
These porters warned to commit suicide in case their demand was not conceded.
