Army facilitates cataract surgery for needy persons

JAMMU, Sept 24: Army facilitated cataract surgery of 10 patients belonging to Surankote area of Poonch district.
According to an Army spokesperson, Army had organized a cataract screening camp at Surankote and Daraba from July 4 to July 6, 2017 during which 70 patients from Bafliaz and surrounding villages who were suffering from cataract were identified.
He said that Army is now in the process of facilitating the cataract surgeries of these patients. “In this ongoing process, 10 cataract surgeries were conducted from September 17 to 20 at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu”, he said, adding, the surgeries were performed by Dr Dinesh Gupta, HoD Opthalmology Department of GMC Jammu.
The spokesperson said that in the coming days, operation of the balance patients will be conducted in a phased manner. “The second batch of 10 patients will be operated upon on September 25 and 26”, he said, adding, the entire effort including the transportation and lodging and boarding facilities at Jammu for the patients is being coordinated by Army.
