Army dedicates park to people

UDHAMPUR, May 9: Lt Gen H J S Sachdev, Chief of Staff (COS), HQ Northern Command inaugurated Pachauri Park near Thomas bridge, Udhampur and dedicated it to people.
The park has been established in the memory of Late Lt Col V K Pachauri, who Commanded Northern Command Signal Regiment (NCSR) and died in harness while commanding the regiment in 1976.
The park at the entrance to Udhampur cantt, combines greenery and art at one place and houses more than 30 varieties of plants along with a structure of Mig-23 plane aligned centrally on an aerodynamic structure providing a welcome sight to visitors to the beautiful city of Udhampur.
While delivering the inaugural address, the General officer said that the Northern Command had conceived a plan in collaboration with Civil administration to develop more eco friendly green spots in Udhampur which will benefit a large populace including tourists visiting the city.
Lt Gen HJS Sachdev expressed appreciation for all agencies especially Northern Command Signal Regiment for providing strong support and assistance in improving the overall beauty and aesthetics of Udhampur town.
Yasha Mudgal, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur was also present on this occasion. She thanked the Army for this initiative and said that such projects will not only go a long way in making the City Green and Environment clean but also further strengthen the bond of friendship between the Jawan and Awam.
A large number of Senior officials from Army and Civil administration attended the ceremony.
