Army conducts eye camp

AKHNOOR, Jan 24: A week long Surgical Eye Camp was organized at Military Hospital, Akhnoor in accordance with “Vision 2020”, a programme of Government of India fulfilling the ‘Right to Sight’ for all, an initiative conceptualized to provide advanced state-of-the-art tertiary medical care to the civilian and ex servicemen at their doorsteps.
The eye camp which concluded today combined the twin objectives of providing assistance to the civilians of the remote border areas under Sadbhavana project as well as to the ESMs of the area.
Eye teams from Command Hospital (Northern Command), 166 MH and 150 GH provided expert OPD services encompassing consultation, remedial measures and dispensing of medicines.
After screening 372 patients for suitability for surgery, a total of 94 eye cases were operated by Col VK Baranwal, Lt Col Mariam Mathew and Maj Shailesh Mogra, Eye specialists of Command Hospital, 166 MH and 150 GH, respectively by modern state-of-the-art phacoemulsification cataract surgery with implantation of imported US FDA approved premium foldable Intra Ocular Lens.
Anaesthesia support was provided by Maj Ritesh Dubey. A phenomenal response was noted amongst the patients and their attendants. All cases were successful and gained good visual recovery.
The valedictory ceremony was graced by Col AK Sharma (Col Medical).
