AERB seals two X-Ray machines in GMC Jammu

JAMMU, June 29: The Regulatory Enforcement Team of Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) today sealed two X-Ray machines at Government Medical College and Hospital here.
According to sources, the team led by Radiological Safety Division Scientific Officer, BK Singh this afternoon made a surprise visit to the hospital and sealed two diagnostic X-Ray equipments located at Post Graduate Department of Radio-Diagnosis of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for not complying safety requirements.
“The action was taken in presence of Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, Dr Ravinder Rattanpal and Radio-Diagnosis, HoD, Dr Ghanshem Dev Gupta, which were not complying with specified regulatory safety requirements when the team found in violation of AE (RPR), 2004 keeping in view of the interest of public safety,’’ sources here said.
Sources further said that AERB team has asked GMC administration to furnish a satisfactory explanation in this regard and ensure regulatory compliance within 30 days. The sources further added that sealing of X-Ray machines has led to inconvenience to the patients.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent, GMC Jammu, confirmed that the two X-Ray machines in Radio-Diagnosis department have been sealed by the AERB team, as some paper work regarding the machines was not completed.
However, he said that patient care in no way has been affected, as there are four more X-Ray machines in the Hospital, which are running smoothly. Dr Rattanpal said that the paper work of the sealed machines is already in progress and will be completed soon.
