Adopt proper procedure to disburse package: DPs

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU,  Oct 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee (JKSAC) has urged upon the Government to adopt proper procedure and accommodate all deserving displaced persons from PoK for providing package as announced by the Prime Minister.
A  joint meeting of all the organisations of DP’s of 1947 from PoK, particularly Jammu Kashmir Sharnarthi Action Committee and MJR-47 represented by Gurdev Singh president (JKSAC) and JS Sudan (Convener MJR-47) along with other members, held a meeting here today and strongly criticized the unprincipled modus operandi of  State Govt going to launch a scheme for disbursement of relief package to only hundred families of DP’s out of 36,384 families of all the categories on  October 29, 2016.
The organisations lauded the decision of the Central Govt for announcing a package of Rs 2000 crore which acknowledged the legitimacy of DP’s claim for their properties left behind in PoK after a long period of seven decades. The members in the meeting also appreciated the Govt to start the process of disbursement, but on the other hand strongly condemned the Govt to not clarify the nature and status of the package and quantum of amount to be paid to each DP family for their loss of lives and properties.
They said that this is needed in view of the fact that State Govt led by Omar Abdullah approved a package of Rs 25 lakh along with other components for each DP family on October 10, 2014 and again Rs 30 lakh with many significant components was recommended by Joint Parliamentary Committee on Home Affairs headed by  Venkaiah Naidu, Minister in Central Govt. They expressed their serious concern over the stoic silence of both the Govt’s. for nor clarifying the status of package. While launching this scheme of disbursement no mention has been made about other significant recommendations of  Joint Parliamentary Committee.
They pointed out that Home Minister  during meeting in Delhi had advised Dr Jatendra Singh, Minister in PMO also to call representatives of  DP’s at Delhi to thrash out the details of  package and other related issues. They   asserted that it is very astonishing, that instead of calling them to Delhi, the State Govt has decided to launch the scheme of disbursement without adopting any justified procedure and also without taking into account the objections and suggestions taken in writing from various DP’s organizations. This decision will complicate the entire process of disbursement and also create chaos and confusion among DP’s, they added.
