JAMMU, Feb 9: Departments of Lifelong Learning, Psychology and Political Science in collaboration with Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, organized a Special Extension Lecture on “Emotional Intelligence” by V K Singh, ADGP (Hqrs) J&K, here today.
V K Singh, in a very informative presentation, explained the different aspects of emotional intelligence like self awareness, self regulation, empathy and relationship management. He also made the students understand emotions by explaining diagrammatically the anatomy of brain.
Earlier, Dr Kavita Suri, Director, Department  of Lifelong Learning,  said that emotional intelligence is linked to our lives and the students need to be sensitized about such an important issue which can help them in their both professional and personal lives.
Dr Anupama Vohra, Associate Dean Students’ welfare, emphasized on the role of  extension activities like this for the holistic development of a person. She said that along with regular academic processes, such extension lectures and other activities are also very important for the holistic development of our youth.
Prof Arti Bakshi, Head, Department of Psychology, JU, mentioned that stressful situations around the globe can be dealt with emotional intelligence. If we can understand the emotions, we can solve various problems, she said.  Quoting Daniel Goleman who has authored a book on “Emotional intelligence”, she said what really matters for success, character, happiness and lifelong achievements, is a definite set of emotional skills and our students and youth need to be apprised of it.
About 200 students, faculty and staff of Departments of Lifelong Learning, Psychology, Law and Political Science attended the programme. Dr Gurmeet Kaur, of Police Drug De-addiction Centre was also present at the occasion.
Vote of thanks was presented by Prof Taj-u-din, Head, Department of Political Science, JU,   Sonakshi Ganotra, PG student of Education Department conducted the programme.
