67 Ph D Degrees, 68 Medals to be awarded in 14th Convocation

JAMMU, Aug 29: With the successful conduct of a rehearsal today for the 14th Convocation, Jammu University has almost finalized the arrangement for the mega event, which is scheduled to be held on September 1.
During the 48 minute rehearsal, held at General Zorawar Singh Auditorium, JU Registrar Prof Manoj Dhar led an Academic Procession comprising of the members of University Council, Syndicate and Academic Council. The students, who will be awarded Medals and Degree, also took part in the rehearsal.
The various organizing committees, constituted for the different tasks in connection with the Convocation, are giving final touches to the assigned responsibilities in association with each other while Vice-Chancellor Prof Mohan Singh Ishar is personally monitoring all the arrangements.
“The chief guest President Pranab Mukherjee, will award Medals and Degree for the year 2013 during the Convocation, which will be presided over by Governor N N Vohra, Chancellor of the University, while Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Pro-Chancellor of JU, will be the guest of honour on the occasion,” said Prof Ishar while talking to media persons in a press conference on the campus, here today.
In total 67 candidates who completed their Doctorate Degree in the year 2013 in seven faculties shall be awarded Ph D Degrees and 68 candidates shall be awarded with University Gold Medal, Cash awards and medals created out of endowment, he added.
“As the JU Convocation is being held after a gap of seven years due to certain reasons and it was not possible to award Degrees and Medals to all for these years in a single function, the Jammu University is going to hold a special Convocation on September 16, 2014,” Prof Ishar further informed.
In this special Convocation, he added, Ph D Degrees and the Gold Medals shall be awarded to the candidates from Session 2006 to 2012. The VC said that the Jammu University was planning to make the Convocation a regular feature.
While responding to a query, Prof Ishar claimed that all the heads of departments and other university officials have been involved in various roles and capacities in organizing the convocation.
During the press conference, the VC was flanked by Registrar Prof Manoj K Dhar, Controller Examination Prof Keshav Sharma, Director DCD Prof Deshbandhu Gupta and Convener Press and Publicity Committee, Prof Neelu Rohmetra.
