Security forces launch CASO in Pulwama, clashes erupts

SRINAGAR: Security forces launched a Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in a village in south Kashmir district of Pulwama against militants.
Official sources said security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation at village Rahmoo in Pulwama following a tip off about the presence of militants.
However, when the security forces were sealing the exit points, locals outside the cordoned off area hit the streets and tried to disrupt the operation.
Security forces resorted to lathicharge to disperse the demonstrators, they said adding later security forces burst teargas shells to prevent them (demonstrators) to enter the cordoned off area.
Security forces continued search operation, they said adding so far no contact was established with the militants.
Sources said that intelligence reports said that militants, who were hiding in the forest, have entered village following heavy snowfall in the upper reaches. (AGENCIES)
