DODA, July 14: Three members of a family including a minor girl died after their house collapsed in Tanta Panchayat of tehsil Kahara, early this morning.
The incident happened after a portion of the house where the family was sleeping fell due to heavy rain. The incident took place at about 5 am in upper Tanta village.
Giving details, Sunny Gupta, Sub Divisional Police Officer, Gandoh, said, “The incident took place when the roof of a mud house fell due to which it collapsed, killing three members of a family. The mud house collapsed due to heavy rainfall in the area for last three days. The three people who died were identified as Mohd Abbas (25) Son of Abdul Rasheed, his wife Tasleema Begum (22) and their minor daughter Aaliya (3).”
Mohammad Abbas, a daily wager, lived in the mud house. All three members of the family were sleeping when the house collapsed. “Not a single person could survive since all the members of the family were sleeping in one room. The incident took place at about 5 am after which the villagers along with sleuths from police post Tanta started rescue operation and removed them from the debris at 6.45 am, but they succumbed to their injuries,” said Gupta.
“Due to inaccessibility of the village, instead of taking the bodies to hospital which is 28 km downhill from Tanta, we called a team of doctors from SDH Thathri for autopsy,” SDPO added.
The district authorities and police asked the relatives of the family to allow the post-mortem of the bodies so that they could get compensation as it was a natural disaster which led to the house collapse and resultant deaths.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has expressed grief over the death of three members of the family and directed the District Administration to provide all possible help to the next of kin of the family.
Conveying his condolence to the bereaved family, former Chief Minister and leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha (Ghulam Nabi Azad has) prayed for granting solace to the departed souls and courage to the family of the deceased to bear the loss.
He expressed solidarity with the family and urged the Government to provide assistance to all those, whose houses have been damaged due to torrential rains.
GM Saroori (MLA Inderwal), Mohammed Sharief Niaz (JKPCC executive member), Abdul Majid Wani (JKPCC general secretary) and Naresh Kumar Gupta (MLC) have also expressed grief over the incident.
