205 kg poppy straw seized, 2 narcotic smugglers arrested

UDHAMPUR, Jan 12: Continuing its offensive to contain the spread of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, Udhampur Police today seized another consignment of 205 kgs of contraband substance `poppy straw’ from narcotic smugglers.
The consignment was being smuggled in a truck bearing registration number GJ 2Z -0549, which was intercepted by a Police party, led by SHO Udhampur, Inspr Sanjeev Singh Chib, under the supervision of Zahid Saif Wani, DySP HQ.
During search, 205 kg poppy straw was recovered from the said vehicle. The narcotic smuggler namely Sameer Ahmed son of Bashir Ahmed of Desa, Doda, alongwith Mohd Farooq son of Bashir Ahmed of Mahore, Reasi, were arrested on the spot while poppy straw as well as the truck were also seized.
In this connection, a case FIR number 17/19 U/S 8/15 NDPS has been registered at PS Udhampur and further investigation of the case is going on.
Meanwhile, an absconder since October 2018, involved in case FIR number 80/2018, under section 8/15 NDPS Act at Police Station Chenani, was arrested today.
The accused, identified as Sunil alias Bhangra, son of Mohinder of Kapurthala, Punjab, had managed to escape when Police foiled an attempt of smuggling 279 kg poppy straw in a truck. He was arrested by a Police party, led by SHO Chenani, Sanjeet Sharma, under the supervision of SDPO Chenani, Santokh Raj.
