17219 cases settled in Lok Adalats across J&K

JAMMU, Dec 9: As many as 17219 cases were settled and an amount of Rs 9.17 crore was awarded as compensation in MACT cases besides an amount of Rs 16 crore was settled in bank recovery suits in the National Lok Adalats held across the State.
The Lok Adalats were held under the patronage of Chief Justice Badar Durrez Ahmed, who is also Patron-in-Chief of J&K State Legal Services Authority and Executive Chairman of SLSA Justice Mohammad Yaqoob Mir.
The information was provided by R N Wattal, Member Secretary J&K SLSA.
In District Court Complex Jammu, 11 benches were constituted under the guidance of Vinod Chaterji Koul, Principal District and Sessions Judge Jammu. A total of 5562 cases were taken up out of which 5406 were decided. Similar Lok Adalats were also held at Tehsil Headquarters of Akhnoor, Bishnah and RS Pura which were presided over by respective Chairman Tehsil Legal Services Committees.
In Poonch District Court Complex, five benches were constituted under the guidance of Principal District and Sessions Judge Zubair Ahmed Raza and a total of 953 cases of different nature were taken up out of which 798 cases were settled by way of mediation, conciliation and compromise.
In Kathua District Court Complex, two benches were constituted under the guidance of Principal District and Sessions Judge Sikander Azam Choudhary. A total of 440 cases were taken up out of which 247 were settled.
A total of 1016 cases were settled in the Lok Adalat held at District Court Complex Rajouri under the chairmanship of Shahzad Azeem, Principal District and Sessions Judge, who had constituted four benches for disposal of the cases.
In District Court Complex Samba, three benches were constituted under the guidance of R K Wattal, Principal District and Sessions Judge. In the first bench, 12 MACT and 8 bank recovery cases were settled while as in the second and third benches 77 cases were disposed off.
A total of 179 cases were settled in the Lok Adalat held in the District Court Complex at Reasi under the chairmanship of Principal District and Sessions Judge S R Gandhi. For settlement of cases, two benches were constituted by the Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority.
Lok Adalat was also held in the premises of District Consumer Protection Forum in Srinagar during which nine cases were settled amicably. The proceedings were conducted by President, District Consumer Protection Forum, Srinagar, Mohammad Ashraf Malik. A total of 30 cases were taken up for hearing and a sum of Rs 328100 was awarded as compensation in favour of the complainants.
In District Court Complex Shopian Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Chairman District Legal Service Authority Shopian, Ashok Kumar Shavan.
During the proceedings, 10 benches were constituted and a total of 3818 cases were disposed of through reconciliation and arbitration.
In Sopore, the Lok Adalat was held in the premises of Tehsil Court Complex under the supervision of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Masrat Roohi.  A total of 60 cases were taken up for hearing and 25  cases were settled on the spot.
In Pattan, the Lok Adalat was organized under the chairmanship of Imtiyaz Ahmad Lone (Sub Judge). As many as 699 cases of various natures were taken up out of which 425 cases were settled amicably.
National Lok Adalats were also held in court premises of District Court Complex, Pulwama and Tehsil Court Complex, Pampore under the chairmanship of District Legal Services Authority Pulwama and Tehsil Legal Services Authority Pampore.
Various criminal compound matters, cases under NI Act, MACT cases, matrimonial cases, bank matters, civil cases, cases pertaining to public utilities, labour disputes and pre-litigation cases were taken up for hearing.
Chairman (Munsiff/Judicial Magistrate) Tehsil Legal Services Committee Koteranka (Budhal), Shafeeq Malik conducted National Lok Adalat at Munsiff Court Complex, Koteranka. A total of 120 cases were disposed off including criminal cases, traffic, civil matters.
