16 injured in bloody clash

POONCH, Dec 10: At least 16 members of two families of a young woman’s parents’ side and the other from in-laws’ side, were injured in a bloody clash at village Bera in Mendhar today.
Official sources said that incident took place when a local Panchayat had been involved in settling a dispute between the two families (Inlaws and parents side) of a young woman Menaz Kouser, wife of Amir Mustafa of Bera.  Over some family dispute, the relatives of both sides were sitting in local Panchayat for settlement on the request of both the sides.
As the process was going on and about fifty odd relatives and villagers were participating in  it, there were heated exchanges between the members on both the sides. Then some of the members came to blows and some took out  lathis and sharp edged weapons. During bloody clash about 16 members were injured and were later shifted to Sub District Hospital, Mendhar.
The police party led by SHO  arrived there after some time. Out of the 16 injured,  six  were later referred to District Hospital, Rajouri and three to the GMC Hospital Jammu. They have been identified as Mohd Tahir, Mohd Wasim, Mod Naved, Shamnaz Kouser from one side and Zulfkar Hussain and Menaz Kouser from the other side. Police said that cognizance of the matter has been taken and both sides have lodged counter complaints.
