1474 buildings, 56 bunkers got vacated from Army: Govt

JAMMU, Mar 26: The State Government has said that 1474 buildings, including 179 schools, 34 hotels and 56 bunkers have been got vacated from security forces for improving security situation in the J&K State.
While replying to the question of National Conference member Dr B A Veeri in Upper House of the J&K Legislature during Question Hour today, the Minister for Horticulture, Haj and Auqaf, Abdul Rehman Veeri said that 1,474 premises and 56 bunkers have been vacated from Army and security forces in view of improvement in security environment in the State till date.
He said out of the total, 179 schools, 922 private buildings, 268 Government buildings, 37 hospitals, 34 hotels, 31 industrial units and 3 cinema halls have been got vacated from the security forces and the Army as of now.
Mr Veeri, who was speaking on behalf of the Home Minister, further informed the House that similarly, 56 bunkers have also been removed from public places in Srinagar from 2009 onwards.
He said the efforts are afoot to have the remaining premises vacated and utilized for their original use. As on today, 1307 private houses, 278 Government buildings, 27 hotels, 5 cinema halls, 3 hospital and 18 industrial units are still under the occupation of security forces in the State and efforts are on to ensure their evacuation, Veeri added.
Responding to yet another question of Dr Veeri, the minister said this is ongoing process and was started during previous regime of Mufti Mohd Sayeed and there is no need to take credit by a particular party.
