11th National Statistics Day observed

JAMMU, June 29: The 11th National Statistics Day was observed to mark the birth anniversary of late Prof PC Mahalanobis, father of Indian Statistics.
In order to create awareness among the people especially the younger generation for drawing inspiration from late Prof Mahalanobis about the role of statistics in socio economic planning and policy formulation, National Sample Survey Office, Field Operations Division, Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Government of India, Regional Office Jammu celebrated the day on the theme “Administrative Statistics”. Officers from Regional Office, NSSO (FOD), Jammu, Sub Regional Office Udhampur, officers of Directorate of Economics and Statistics, J&K Government, Associate Professors and some research scholars of Department of Statistics, University of Jammu were present on the occasion.

The function started with lighting of traditional lamp and paying tributes to late Prof Mahalanobis by Amitjyoti Roy, Deputy Director General, BS Bhan, Asstt Director, PN Pandita, Asstt Director and officers of Regional office, NSSO (FOD) Jammu.
A documentary film on the life of late Prof Mahalonobis and different surveys conducted by the NSSO (FOD), Government of India was shown to the participants.
The participants who delivered their lectures on the theme of the 11th Statistics Day were awarded with mementoes and honorarium by Amitjyoti aoy and others.
In the end, BS Bhan presented vote of thanks.
Directorate of Economics and Statistics, J&K through Regional Joint Director, Evaluation and Statistics, Jammu organized a function to observe 11th National Statistics Day. Veena Thapar, Director, Directorate of Economics and Statistics J&K presided over the function as chief guest and addressed the gathering. Rajni Charak, Regional Joint Director, Evaluation and Statistics, Ashu Gupta, Senior Instructor, Statistical Training Institute, CPOs and DSEOs of various districts of Jammu region along with members of statistical fraternity were also present. Gurneet Kour, Assistant Director, RJD was the stage secretary, while Bharat B Bhagat, Assistant Director, Udaan presented vote of thanks.
Directorate of Economics and Statistics, J&K today observed the 11th Annual Statistics Day in the state to pay homage to late Prof Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis.
The day was observed to create awareness in public particularly among the younger generation about contributions made by Prof Mahalanobis in the field of economic planning and statistics development.
Director General, Economics and Statistics, J&K Reyaz Ahmad Banday highlighted the ways and means to improve upon the statistical system of the State. Dr Nisar Ali (Economist), GA Qureshi, Ex-Director General, Economics and Statistics, Dr H.S.Arora, Director (Planning) also spoke on the occasion and urged the Directorate of Economics and Statistics to use its machinery and expertise to expand coverage of data collection in the State.
MI Teli Director, Planning, SKUAST, Kashmir, S Bilal, Director, Planning, Rakesh Jamwal, Director Planning, Joint Directors, Deputy Directors and other members of the Economics and Statistics cadre also attended the event.
