NEW DELHI, July 11: Vice President of India, M. Venkaiah Naidu today held an hour long interaction with 2016 batch IAS officers, who were recently designated as Assistant Secretaries. He was accompanied by Union MoS In-Charge DoPT Dr Jitendra Singh.
Addressing the young officers, Venkaiah Naidu called upon them to cultivate the virtues of empathy, impartiality, efficiency and incorruptibility. He called for developing a culture of ‘inclusive management’ so that the benefits of governance can reach every section of society.
Hailing some of the new programmes initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Venkaiah Naidu said, the unique feature of a programme like “Swachch Bharat” is that it is not a government programme, but actually got converted into a mass movement. This is the requirement of the current times, so that more and more people are involved in governance and public administration, he said.
Dr Jitendra Singh described the next 30 years as crucial for officers of IAS and other Civil Services because during these years, the world will witness the ascent of India as a superpower. These young officers, he said, who have over three decades of service to put in, will have the privilege of being a part of the team which would contribute to the making of “New India”.
Hailing Prime Minister Narendra Modi for inspiring the concept of 3 month stint for young IAS officers in Government of India before they go to their respective States, Dr Jitendra Singh said, when started three years ago in 2015, there may have been some reservations about this new experiment, but looking back today, it has proved to be successful beyond expectation. He referred to a recent survey conducted on the first two batches who underwent this three month attachment in Government of India in 2015 and 2016, and disclosed that more than 97% of the young officers said that they felt hugely benefited from their assignment as Assistant Secretaries for three months in various Ministries of Government of India before leaving for the respective States to take up the field assignments as SDM or Assistant District Development Commissioner.
