Vaid to be new DGP

JAMMU, Dec 27: Dr Shesh Pal Vaid, an IPS officer of 1986 batch of Jammu and Kashmir cadre, will be new Director General of Police (DGP) of Jammu and Kashmir in place of K Rajendra Kumar, whose three-month extension in services will come to an end on December 31.
Official sources told the Excelsior that decks have been cleared for the posting of Dr Vaid, a highly decorated officer, to succeed Rajendra as the new police chief.
Formal orders for Dr Vaid’s appointment, who is presently working as DGP (Law and Order), were likely to be issued by the State Cabinet, which is meeting here at 4 pm tomorrow, sources said.
Vaid has held several prestigious posts like DG Prisons, Additional DG Headquarters, IGP Jammu, DIG and SSP of various Ranges and districts before being elevated to the rank of DGP (Law and Order) in September.
Rajendra, who was due to retire on September 31, was granted three-month extension by the Union Home Ministry on the request of the State Government, which will end on December 31.
