JAMMU, Mar 19: A deputation of unemployed dental surgeons of Jammu and Kashmir under the banner of DSA-JK called on Minister for Health and Medical Education, Choudhary Lal Singh, at BJP headquarters in presence of party spokespersons, Sunil Sethi, Balbir Ram Rattan and Dr Suresh Ajay Magotra and submitted a memorandum containing their grievances and sufferings.
In the memorandum, they submitted that the total sectioned posts of dental surgeons till now in the State are 541, which are very low in number adding that from the year 2008, there has been no recruitment of dental surgeons in the State by Government under any national or State sponsored schemes as well as through State PSC recruitment.
It further said that there are already more than 1500 unemployed dental graduates in the State and every year more than 300 dental surgeons are piling to this heap of unemployment.
In the memorandum, it was also submitted that there is no scope for higher education after BDS because only 12 seats of MDS (8 general and 4 categories) are available in the State against 300 undergraduate seats and they are also not eligible for national competition in higher education.
The deputation also raised few other related issues and sought personal intervention of the Minister to ensure some kind of solution for their absorption.
The Minister gave a patient hearing and assured of every possible help to mitigate their problems and sufferings adding that the PDP-BJP coalition Government is committed to streamline the medical sector and bring the Government hospitals at par with other health institutions of the country.
