Train catches fire, no loss

KATHUA, June 19: The passengers of D-5 Coach of Anand Vihar Express NR 04449/A had a narrow escape after the coach caught fire at 6.20 pm near Hiranagar.
As per reports the fire was detected in the bathroom of the train by Railway Police on duty near Ghagwal and they informed the Railway Station Hiranagar stopped where the train was detained and local fire brigade was pressed into service to control the fire. There was no loss of life as all passengers traveling in the coach were safe.
Soon after the Station Master at Hiranagar received the message that the D-5 coach of Aanand Vihar train which was on its way from Jammu to Delhi has caught fire, he kept the railway staff and GRP ready to deal with the eventuality. The fire brigade from Hiranagar was also called by then and it was pressed into service soon after the train reached Hiranagar Railway station to control the fire which has started from bathroom of the train.
Soon after receiving the message, SSP Railways Rajinder Gupta also reached Hiranagar to take the stock of the situation. He said there was no loss of life. The Railways have, however, ordered the inquiry.
Gupta said that the coach D-5 was detached from the train and its passengers were shifted to other coaches. Later the train was allowed to leave for Delhi after proper checking.
The police said that the fire could have been either caused due to short circuit or throwing of cigarette or beedi in the bathroom.
