JAMMU, Jan 29: Up in arms against recent transfers of Masters and Lecturers on alleged pick and choose basis by the Administrative Department, various organizations of the teaching cadre in the School Education Department have appealed Governor N N Vohra to order cancellation of all transfers and adjustment of January 27.
In this connection, Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum held a strong protest demonstration near the Press Club Jammu, here today, under the leadership of Ganesh Khajuria, State general secretary of the Forum.
Shouting slogans, the protesting teachers expressed great resentment against the hurriedly issued transfer orders of Lecturers, Masters and Teachers on pick and choose basis by the outgoing Secretary on January 27. They urged the Governor and Chief Secretary to issue necessary direction for cancellation of these transfer orders in peak of academic session.
The protesting teachers were addressed by the Forum leaders who also said that the cancellation of attachments and deployment of teaching cadre at this time would adversely affect studies of the students as annual examinations are approaching nearer.
This order should also be revoked immediately and the attached/deployed teachers should be allowed to work till the end of the academic session,” they added.
The speakers also demanded adjustment of the repatriated Masters and Lecturers to their home district Jammu, Samba or Kathua after serving complete tenure in far flung districts.
Ganesh Khajuria alleged that the adjustment of Masters from other districts in Jammu against the posts of Jammu district by the higher authorities on the behest of corrupt politicians was the root cause of chaos in the School Education Department. “ Further, nearly 1100 teachers were promoted by Directorate of School Education Jammu in February 2014 and only 165 of them were adjusted as Masters by adopting pick and choose policy keeping aside all the norms for the reasons best known to the authorities,” he added.
Others, who addressed the protesting teachers, included Rajinder Gupta, Gopal Singh, Yog Raj Singh, Raj Singh, Darshan Sharma and Surat Singh.
Meanwhile, All Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh Teachers Federation has also demanded revocation of Government order on cancellation of attachments/ deployment as well as transfer orders, issued by the outgoing Secretary on January 27.
Addressing a press conference, here today, the Federation convener Maheshwar Prasad alleged that non-adherence of transfer norms by the officers at the helm of affairs was the reasons behind prevailing chaos in the School Education Department. He also demanded adjustment of the Masters and Lecturers, who are awaiting their adjustment since their repatriation to home district.
An emergency meeting of All J&K Plus 2 Lecturers’ Forum was also held today under the chairmanship of its State president N S Jamwal for registering strong resentment against the recent transfer of lecturers on pick and choose basis especially ignoring lecturers repatriated from Ladakh region who have been awaiting orders of adjustments from the last ten months.
The Forum appealed Governor N N Vohra to personally look into the matter and issue directions for immediate cancellation of such orders issued on January 27 and onwards and demanded rationalized transfer policy immediately for the smooth functioning of the institutions.
