Srinagar records hottest day

SRINAGAR, June 26:
Srinagar witnessed the hottest day of the season so far after the mercury surged and settled at 33.5 degree Celsius, which is around three degree above normal, though there was some respite in the evening due to winds.
A Met department spokesperson here this evening said that isolated rain would occur in Kashmir valley while there could be scattered to fairly widespread rain in Jammu during the next three days. However, Ladakh will remain dry during the next five days.
The summer capital recorded the hottest day of the season so far today after the mercury further surged and settled at 33.5 degrees, against 33 degrees recorded yesterday. However, there was some respite from the hot weather condition in the evening due to clouds and cool breeze.
The minimum temperature was also about two notches above normal in the city, he said adding there is possibility of light rain and thundershowers during the next 24 hours when the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 31 degrees and 16 degrees respectively.
World famous health resort of Pahalgam, where the annual pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas will commence from July 2, also recorded considerable surge in the mercury. Against 8.7 degree minimum temperature yesterday, it was 14.3 degree, over five notches above normal.
The maximum temperature recorded in Pahalgam was 28.9 degree, around four notches above normal. The day temperature recorded in famed ski resort of Gulmarg was 22.6 degrees, while the minimum temperature was 12.6 degree, which was over a notch above normal. (UNI)
