JAMMU, July 11: A special task force of J&K SPCB conducted surprise inspection of various shopping malls using banned polythene material.
As per official spokesman, a special task force of J&K SPCB headed by Regional Director SPCB Jammu, Er JN Sharma and comprising of Dr Yash Pal Scientist ‘B’, Divisional Officers viz PCB Samba South Er AB Jandial, PCB Jammu North Er TS Chib, PCB Jammu South Er Badder Hussain and PCB Samba North Er Deepak Abrol, Dr Mohan Lal Snehi, PCB Rajouri and Er Arshad Malik, Er Surinder Tripathi, Er Anupam Kaul, Er Chander Kotwal, Er Kuldeep Bhan and Field Inspectors Naveed Chowdhary and Dimple Sharma on the directions of Chairman, J&K SPCB B Siddhartha Kumar and guidance of BM Sharma, Member Secretary, J&K SPCB raided various establishments in Jammu and fined as per the provisions of the Act to the defaulters and also seized the banned polythene material.
Regional Director Jammu appealed to the traders, manufacturers, stockists and persons using such banned material to cooperate with the authorities.
“In the raid today, the main establishment raided was Vishal Mega Mart, Railhead Complex Jammu and directions have been issued to refrain from using such material in future. Scientific investigation carried out on the banned packaging material found in the premises with the thickness of packaging material ranging between 20-35 microns. The compound penalty for using the banned packaging material was imposed on the spot against the offenders”, he added.
“PCB will carry out this movement in future and even the Local Bodies, Gram Panchayat, Municipalities, Municipal Corporation, Tourism department and Police Department should also carry out similar drive to sensitise the common man against the use of banned polythene in the State as they are also authorized under the Act to seize the banned material and handover the same to the Pollution Control Board”, he informed.
