Shun diversionary politics, concentrate on governance: Rana tells PDP-BJP Coalition

UDHAMPUR, Apr 26: National Conference today asked the PDP-BJP Government to get started and concentrate on governance rather than resorting to diversionary tactics on one or the other issue.
“Nearly two months are a sufficient cooling period and now the Government must address to vexed issues confronted to the State”, Provincial President Devender Singh Rana said while wrapping up day-long deliberations of the party functionaries’ convention here this evening.
Prominent among those present in the convention included State Vice President Th Kashmira Singh, Jugal Mahajan, Sheikh Bashir, Choudhry Shafi.
He said after getting entangled between themselves over contentious issues, the two coalition partners were now indulging in anti-people activities in order to abdicate their responsibilities from governance. “Some segments of the employees are craving for salaries, elderly and destitute people are crying over release of their pensions and various utility services are near defunct due to maintenance for want of funding, which are yet to be released”, he said, adding that this is not for what the people of Jammu and Kashmir had mandated PDP and the BJP.
The Provincial President referred to sense-less measures like new Recruitment Policy and outsourcing of police recruitment and said these exploded the myth of Coalition Government’s ‘Ache Din’ and ‘Healing Touch’ rhetoric. He lauded the Governor N N Vohra for coming to the rescue of over six lakh youth by saving them to come to streets to struggle for their legitimate rights. The insensitivity shown by the Government on such critical issues speak volumes their concern for the youth who form majority of the State.
Mr Rana complimented the party cadre in generating awareness among the youth about sinister designs of the Coalition Government and hoped that they will get further rejuvenated in highlighting the hard pressed problems confronted to the people. “A healthy opposition serves as a safety valve, which is why National Conference has taken upon itself to gear up at all the levels maintain checks and balances”, he said adding that but for the stiff resistance shown by the party, the Government would have progressed with policies detrimental to the State.
The Provincial President exuded confidence that National Conference units across the State will galvanize the party and plunge into public domain for raising forceful voice against anti-people measures. He said the attempts made during the past two months in vitiating the atmosphere has impacted economic Activity and tourism flow, which a state like Jammu and Kashmir cannot afford.
He said the peaceful era heralded by the Omar led Government had instilled a sense of confidence among the people as also those visiting the State, especially the Valley to enjoy nature’s beauty and bounty. “Peace is not only vital for giving fillip to development but it is equally and essentially important for promoting tourism-the mainstay of the people”, he maintained.
The speakers highlighted public problems and urged the party leadership to take up these at appropriate fora for redressal.
The convention was attended by District and Block functionaries and senior leaders of the party.
