AKHNOOR, Nov 8: Emphasizing the need for a secular and strong Government in the State, Minister for PHE, Irrigation & Flood Control and senior Congress leader Sham Lal Sharma today asked the people to support Congress party wholeheartedly to bring it into power for prosperous and vibrant Jammu and Kashmir.
Addressing a strong crowd of Congress workers at Akhnoor, the Minister said that Congress has always worked for promoting the unity, integrity and communal harmony to keep all sections of the society united, which was mandatory for ensuring all round development in the country as well in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress party has rich history and vast experience of serving the people of the country for maximum period after the independence and people have great faith on the party’s secular ideology which is its real strength, said Mr Sham.
Highlighting the performance of Congress-led Government in the Centre during its two consecutive terms, the Minister said the party had taken several welfare measures and development initiatives for the people, especially for those living below poverty line and marginalized sections of the society. The visionary and dynamic leadership of Congress had taken some very courageous and bold policy decisions which will prove beneficial for the country in the long run, he said and asked the people to elect an exclusive Congress Government in the State for accelerating the development process in Jammu and Kashmir.
Cautioning people against nefarious design of the disruptive forces like BJP, PDP and NC, the Minister said that these political outfits have no specific agenda but just to misguide the people with hollow slogans. He asked the people to thwart the design of such parties and elect the Government of secular character.
Former Congress MP Madan Lal Sharma also addressed the gathering and said that Congress is the only party which can guard the honour of the people of Jammu. “Congress has a secular foundation and the party always worked hard for the upliftment of weaker sections of the society whereas forces like BJP, PDP and NC play the politics of disintegrating the society in the name of regions, religions and castes,” he said.
Madan Lal asked the people to strengthen the hands of Congress party and support the candidature of Sham Lal Sharma from the Akhnoor constituency. “Sham is a time tested candidate, who has done massive development of Akhnoor constituency during the past one decade. Mr Sham has fought for the cause of common man of Jammu and people should ensure his victory with huge margin so that the development tempo continues,” said Madan Lal Sharma.
