SgCt, associate running Kashmir-Jammu drugs cartel arrested with poppy straw

JAMMU, July 12: In continuation to make drugs free society, Gangyal Police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ busted Kashmir-Jammu drugs trafficking racket with the arrest of two persons including a Selection Grade Constable (SgCt) of Jammu and Kashmir Police along with 50 kilograms of poppy straw.
As per police sources, on reliable information, a team from Gangyal Police Station laid a special vehicles checking point at Murgi Chowk and signaled an Alto car bearing registration number JK02AD-0209.
On seeing police check point, the driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops intercepted the car after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 50 kilograms of poppy straw from the vehicle and arrested two persons including a Selection Grade Constable (SgCt) of Jammu and Kashmir Police.
The accused have been identified as SgCt Fareed Bakash of IRP 18th Battalion E “Coy” Jammu, son of Mohammad Iqbal, a resident of Thoru Arnas, District Reasi, at present Krimchi Mansar, District Udhampur and Ghulam Ahmed Sofi, son of Walli Mohammad Sofi of Gundchal, District Anantnag.
During questioning, it came to fore that both the accused were running Kashmir-Jammu drugs cartel. It also came to light that this consignment was brought from Kashmir for selling among the youth in Jammu and its surrounding areas.
With their arrest, the police not only saved the youth from becoming drug addicts, but also saved their families from daily quarrels as it is understood that a drug addict create nuisance in family and society in general.
A case under FIR Number 58/18 under Section 8/15 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Gangyal Police Station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment and other persons indulged in this illegal trade practice.
Police team led by SHO Gangyal SI Nayat Ali and assisted by Incharge Greater Kailash Police Post SI Vicky Thapa busted the drugs cartel racket and arrested the accused under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
