Several mines explode due to forest fire

JAMMU, Dec 4: A number of landmines exploded along the Line of Control (LoC) at village Langiot in Mendhar sector of Poonch district this evening due to forest fires.
Reports said that fire broke out in the forest area of Langiot this morning and slowly covered around one kilometer area on the LoC.
“The bushes were generally dried due to prolonged dry spell, leading to spread of the fire,” reports said, adding that fire was also reported on Pakistan side of the LoC.
Generally, Pakistani troops set afire bushes on their side and fire spreads to the Indian side. This is done by the Pakistani troops to clear the forward areas on LoC of landmines to facilitate infiltration attempts by the militants. However, troops were maintaining very high alert on the LoC to thwart intrusion bids by the militants.
No casualties or damage has so far been reported in forest fire on the Indian side. However, a number of mine explosions took place due to the fire.
