JAMMU, Sept 18: Internati-onal Peace Conference under the theme “Building Nations of Peace: Our Shared Responsibility” was held today at University of Jammu, which was attended by members from Japan, US and Korea.
The conference was jointly organised by Universal Peace Federation of India (UPF) and Gandhian Centre for Peace and Conflict Studies, University of Jammu and Gandhi Peace Foundation, Jammu Chapter.
Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice-Chancellor Jammu University, who was the chief guest on the occasion while speaking, said that he belongs to generation after partition which had seen worst types of conflicts and for the sake of peace we have to encourage the youth to be peace maker which shall make the world a better place to live in. Vice-Chancellor said that the religions which were supposed to propagate peace have also failed. Basic idea of removing conflicts has not gone away, we have to work on it. Undefined boundaries have also done worst thing to peace. Sacrifices can never be one sided, there has to be clarity what and for whom one is sacrificing for. As an institution marriage is deteriorating so is the family, the process ought to be reversed.
Prof Ishar further proposed that marriages cutting across boundaries of wealth, race, culture and the obligations of States and Countries and the generation out of that proposition will be able to overcome imperialism, conflicts and respect for each other and he further emphasized that at no cost we should surrender to exploitation.
UPF-Asia Chairman, Dr Chung Sik Yong, while underlining the importance of the growth of India said that the balance of power is shifting from west to east.
Earlier Prof Anurag Gangal, Director, GCPCS, presented the welcome address.
Krishna Adhikari, secretary general of UPF gave an overview of the Universal Peace Federation wherein he talked about the basic, structure and nature of the activities conducted by the federation across the globe.
Dr Robert S Kittel, special invitee presented the introduction of the peace principles. He highlighted the role of Sanatan’s dharma in realising the ultimate peaceful society.
The dignitaries launched the setting up of the University Peace Club for the students of Jammu University and the affiliated colleges.
Prof Jigar Mohammad, Dean Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Jammu made a presentation on distribution of resources and spread of peace.
Farooq Khan, former IGP, former Director, SKPAU, noted social worker, political reformer and disaster management expert threw light on the disaster management and international perspective.
International Ambassadors for Peace awards were presented to Prof Mohan Paul Singh Ishar, Vice Chancellor, Prof Gangal and Farooq Khan for making the contributions towards peace.
Dr Seema Rohmetra, Local Coordinator, Gandhi Peace Foundation and the Organising Secretary of the conference presented the formal vote of thanks.
Among other Prof DR Singh, HoD, Political Science, Prof Raj Kumar Rampal, HoD, Environ-mental Sciences, Jai Kumar Sharma, Special Secretary to Vice-Chancellor, Kaykubo, Eri Nakamura, Hitomi Miyano, Kyoko Inoue, Yukari Naito, Haruka Tagawa, peace volunteers from Japan, Scholars and Students were also present on the occasion.
