Post office passport Kendras

People heartily welcome the announcement of the External Affairs Minister that the Government will open new 149 Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK) in the country to make it more convenient for the passport applicants to obtain the prestigious document called passport. The Government wants that no applicant should have to travel more than 50 kilometers to file his or her passport application or to follow the progress of his application. In the first phase of the joint venture of the MEA and the Department of Post, 86 POPSKs had already been made functional. Encouraged by the success of the venture, the MEA has initiated the second phase intending to map 810 head post offices and extend the ambit of the scheme. The day will not be far off when entire country will be brought under the scheme and that will also bring about fascinating revolution in the vision of ordinary Indians about travels and visits abroad. Also we have appreciation for foreign minister launching a portal for the Know India Programme (KIP), an initiative for the Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) between the age group of 18 to 30 years. The aim of the KIP is to help PIO youths familiarize with their roots and contemporary India.  This is a meritorious service to the fund of Indian civilization.
We are reminded that obtaining a passport was a stupendous task even for the people who lived in major cities not to speak of those in far off places of the country. Times have changed and the Government has made the entire system very people friendly. One can upload the application for passport on line and even go on monitoring the progress on line. Ultimately, the government has understood that if we want to develop our trade, diplomatic, cultural and tourist relation with more and more people in the world, we shall have to ease the issuance of passport system.  Many students especially those coming from rural areas and far off places always had great psychological pressure of travelling to a major city where there is the passport office and put up application and then follow it. That ordeal will be over with the opening of the post office passport centers with increasing numbers year after year. Foreign Minister also launched a portal for the Know India Programme (KIP), an initiative by the ministry for the Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) between the age group of 18 to 30 years. The aim of the KIP is to help PIO youths familiarize with their roots and contemporary India.
