JAMMU, Mar 7: A meeting of Pt. Prem Nath Bhat Trust (PNBMT) was held here, today under the presidentship of R L Pandita its chairman.
The meeting took stock of various issues confronting the exiled community of Pandits with special reference to current state of affairs in respect of Kashmiri Hindus temples and shrines in the Valley.
The secretary of the Trust Sundri Lal Koul listed out the outstanding issues concerning the temples and shrines of Hindus in the Valley and their present status as also the developments that took place in the efforts of the Trust in this behalf since the last meeting.
The speakers expressed their dismay over dilly dallying tactics being adopted by the coalition Government in the State towards passage of much needed Temples and Shrines Bill in the State Legislature. They said that Government in each and every session of the State Legislature conveniently affords to accord no heed towards this very important issue relating to the faith and the very existence of KP community. This they said quietly proved that worst sort of yardsticks were applied and discrimination meted out to the already tormented community was clearly visible.
The meeting expressed grave resentment over the blatant encroachment of the temple property in Zainakot, Shopian Kashmir where in close league with the Government agencies the landed property of the temple has been encroached upon and status as on 1990 altered and manipulated. This has happened under the nose of present Government and that is very shocking.
The meeting said in view of the attitude of the Government and political leadership that could prove bulwark in settling the issue of temple Bill having completely failed to prove their sincerity had left no alternative for the community except resorting to agitational options.
