RAJOURI, Mar 27: The people from Peeri and adjoining areas held strong protest at Kotdharra against R&B authorities and blocked road for about one and half hour today.
A large number of villagers of the area today came out on the road at Kotdharra between Khandli bridge and Peeri Road via new proposed Govt Medical College site at around 10 am today and started protest demonstration. They raised barricades on the road and started shouting slogans against R&B authorities for the worst condition of Peeri Road.
They alleged that during foundation stone laying ceremony of GMC Rajouri on this road, it was declared by the local minister and the Legislators that this road will be made Pucca. But R&B did black topping only up to GMC site and remaining road was left unattended just to befool the public. They said that due to worst condition of road, the public transport vehicle operators avoid to carry passengers on this road. The people are suffering badly.
Later, Tehsildar Rajouri and DySP headquarters went there and they also talked to the Executive Engineer R&B Rajouri. They assured that patholes on the road will be covered with good earth now within days and black topping work will be started from third week of April. On this assurance, the people then lifted dharna and allowed movement of the vehicles.
Meanwhile, similar protest was held at Saranu in Kalakote against the poor condition of the local link road. After brief protest demonstration, the villagers dispersed raising slogans against District Administration, local MLA and R&B authorities.
