PDD workers hold protest, demand release of wages

JAMMU, May 25: The need based workers and casual labourers of Power Development Department (PDD) held protest demonstration in front of the office of Chief Engineer, EM&RE at Canal Road here today.
A large number of PDD workers under the banner of J&K Need Base/Casual Labourer Union of PDD, led by its president Akhil Sharma assembled at Canal Road and then moved towards the office of Chief Engineer, PDD (EM&RE) and sat on protest dharna.
They were shouting slogans in support of their demands of releasing pending wages of 3405 PDD workers, implementation of SRO 381 of PDD and commencement of process of implementation of SRO 520 without any more delay.
The Union president, Akhil Sharma and some other trade unionists addressed the gathering and criticised the authorities for not addressing the pending issues of the PDD workers from Jammu area. They said that PDD workers are on agitational path since long but the authorities concerned have not given any heed towards the pending issues of the workers.
Agitating Power workers warned to intensify their struggle in near future if the Government failed to resolve their pending issues.
Prominent among others who addressed the gathering included, Ashish Verma, Bashir Ahmed, Kabir, Sher Singh, Anil Kumar, Niaz, Gurmail Singh, Sham Lal, Mohd Sarwar and Rakesh Kumar.
