JAMMU, Dec 20: A very impressive performance of “Bemaar”, a comedy play in Urdu originally written by Saadat Hasan Manto was presented by Natrang today in its weekly Sunday Theatre Series at Natrang Studio Theatre.
The play was very relevantly adapted and directed by Sumeet Sharma who has developed a signature knack for the notable treatment of such scripts.
In the play, ‘Kumar’ was not feeling well even after taking the medicines prescribed by the doctor. As he wants to get well as early as possible, he becomes an opportune laboratory testing animals for everyone around him and all his acquaintances practice their skills of prescribing the best remedy on him. Despite having cough, he was suggested to eat sour things like tamarind etc reason being, ‘diamond cuts diamond’. He was made to consume rotten vegetables and a lot of weird items. Even after doing variegated treatment, his condition deteriorates, which frustrates him and he resolves to go for one single logical treatment. This play suggests in a very humorous manner that we should not be so unstable that we are carried away by anybody’s suggestions. The use of wit, humour and satire in the play was re-lived by the actors which added the flavour of the performance and the new elements added to the play enhanced its impact. Every time this play is performed, it carries new theme and idioms to make it more pertinent.
Rahul Singh as ‘Kumar’ acted his role very impressively, he was equally supported by the appropriate timings of Pawan Verma as ‘Rashid’, Sumeet Sharma as ‘Bedi’ and Juhi Singh as ‘Mini’. Shivam Singh and Shekhar Sharma also played their roles with the required pace and energy. The lights were designed and operated by Mohd. Yaseen and the presentations were done by Rajan Thakyal.
