UDHAMPUR, Aug 4: With the construction of Chenani -Nashri tunnel the farmers of the area especially the vegetable growers have apprehended loss and to over come this the Nalanda Foundation taking the social responsibility under Corporate Sector has adopted the area and it is working as a role model for doubling the farmers income in this belt.
The Director Agriculture H K Razdan who visited the traditional vegetable area of Chenani -Kud today to inspect the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of Nalanda Foundation an organization of infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services (IL&FS) which is working to transform rural economy through agriculture technology interventions said department will take every step to better the economy of these farmers.
He said the company is also working in synergy and collaboration with Department of Agriculture Jammu for boosting the economy of these farmers.
Razdan who along with other officers visited Mandlote, Kud Mungloo and other adjoining village of Tamatar Morh where he interacted with the representatives of the Foundation and the beneficiary farmers who have established poly green structures, plastic mulches, micro irrigation system, HDPE lined water harvesting tanks and vegetable staking structures for better land and water resource management .
The Foundation has helped 9 women farmers (widows) to establish vegetable farming as a commercial enterprise and earn their livelihood through off season cultivation.
The farmers apprised the visiting team that through these interventions their productivity level of tomato has increased from 150 to 300 quintals per hectare and their income has got a boost.
The other officers who accompanied Director included Deputy Director Agriculture, Chander Mohan Sharma, Vinod Raina, Agronomist Vegetables, Jammu Deepak Kachroo, Divisional Soil Survey Officer, Naresh Dubey Chief Agriculture Officer etc.
