Molestation charges framed against Delhi ex-Law Minister Somnath Bharti

NEW DELHI: A city court on Tuesday framed molestation charges against Aam Aadmi Party  leader Somnath Bharti in connection with the 2014 Khirki Extension raid case. Bharti, the Malviya Nagar MLA was Minister of Law, Tourism, Administrative Reforms, Arts & Culture in the Government of Delhi. Some residents from Khirki Extension on January 15-16, 2014, had complained to Bharti about a drug and prostitution racket allegedly being run by African nationals in the locality. It was alleged that after hearing this Bharti, along with 16 persons, allegedly assaulted Ugandan women living in rented accommodation there.

Police had registered a case after hearing the complaint of women. They had recorded their statements before a Magistrate in which they alleged that they were threatened and molested by the mob after Bharti barged into their house along with his supporters. On January 18, 2014, police has registered the FIR on the direction of the court after an Ugandan woman filed a plea. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal said there was sufficient prima facie material against all the accused persons to put them on trial. (AGENCIES)
