Minister visits border firing victims

JAMMU, Aug 29: Health Minister Choudhary Lal Singh today met those injured in Pakistani firing and undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College and Hospital here and assured all possible help from the Government.
The Minister enquired about health of the 14 people admitted to the hospital and wished for their speedy recovery.
He directed the hospital authorities to provide free and best treatment to the injured.
Singh also conveyed his sympathies to the families of those killed on Friday in Pakistani firing in R S Pura sector.
The Minister said he would take up the matter of creating a separate township for people living in border areas of Hiranagar, R S Pura and Arnia and also of Poonch and Rajouri districts with State and Central Governments.
Singh said frequent firing by Pakistan “shattered” the life of the people living near the border and added that the Government was doing everything possible for their welfare.
“The Government is aware of and very much concerned about the loss to crops, houses…Studies of children have badly suffered and the circumstances that forced them to leave their homes,” he said.
Singh said the civil administration and police personnel have been asked to camp in R S Pura and make arrangements for accommodating border people displaced by firing.
“Sub Divisional Magistrate and police officials of the town have been told to give on the spot compensation to the injured and to those whose houses were damaged,” he said.
Three people were killed and 17 injured as Pakistan Rangers resorted to unprovoked shelling on civilian areas along the International Border in R S Pura sector yesterday, a day after Indian security forces in the Valley captured a Lashkar-e-Toiba terrorist who had sneaked into the state from across the Line of Control.
During his visit to the GMC Jammu, Lal Singh was accompanied by GMC Medical Superintendent Dr Rabinder Ratanpal and RMO Emergency Wing Dr Sujay Mahajan among others.
Meanwhile,  Gujjar & Bakkerwal State president  Choudhary Nazakat Khatana visited many areas of ceasefire violated border hit areas as well as GMC Hospital Jammu where the injured of border firing  are admitted.  He said that Government must ensure free healthcare facilities to the injured ones who are undergoing treatment in the hospital. “An appropriate relief and rehabilitation camp / places be made available to these border victims till their settlement,” he said appealed the Chief Minister to take this Border flare-up situation with the Centre and make all arrangements for the affected people, especially Gujjar and Bakerwals.
Sunil Dimple, president Jammu West Assembly Movement also visited the Government Medical College Hospital Jammu and met the injured of border firing. He inquired about the treatment being provided by the Government in the GMC Jammu to the injured and expressed great concern over pity condition of the victims.
Dimple also demanded that the Government should pay compensation of Rs 20 lakhs and job to the families whose members have lost lives in Pakistan firing, Rs 10 lakhs to those who have become disabled and Rs one lakh to other injured.
