Migrants blame Govt for making voting procedure cumbersome

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 19: A joint meeting of Jagti Migrants Welfare Committee and All Migrants Camps Coordination Committee (AMCCC) was held under the chairmanship of Pintooji and Desh Ratten, today.
The meeting denied the charges that displaced Pandits did not participate in elections and said that despite the repeated pleas to the Government and election authorities they have failed to simplify the voting procedure for the migrants.
They said for casting a vote one migrant voter has to undergo many ordeals and waste days together in filling up M Forms or Form C and then get the same deposited in election department. Moreover the polling stations for casting the vote are not also given on choice but miles away from their residence.
They said that many migrants who filled up their M Forms could not receive the voter slips and when they enquired the same from the concerned agencies they were told that their Forms were rejected. They termed it a deliberate attempt on the part of Government to deprive the displaced people from exercising their right to franchise.
They said from many constituencies the migrants returned without casting their vote as their names were not existing in the voter lists.
The meeting requested Chief Election Commissioner to investigate the matter thoroughly and take action against the defaulters.
