Kingpin of Shopian-Jammu drugs cartel arrested with heroin

JAMMU, July 9: Satwari and Belicharana police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ jointly arrested the kingpin of Shopian-Jammu drugs cartel and recovered heroin valuing Rs 1.50 lakh from his possession.
As per police sources, on specific information, a joint team of Satwari Police Station and Belicharana Police Post laid a naka near R&B Bridge at Belicharana and asked a pedestrian to stop for checking, as he was hiding himself from the cops.
On seeing police cops approaching towards him, the accused tried to escape, but the cops nabbed him after a brief chase.
During checking, police recovered 15 grams of heroin valuing Rs 1.50 lakh from the possession of the pedestrian and arrested him.
The arrested person has been identified as Tariq Ahmed Rishi, son of Ghulam Rasool Rishi, a resident of Rishi Mohallah Wachi, District Anantnag.
The accused had brought the consignment from his native village for selling among the youth in Jammu and its outskirts areas.
With his arrest, the police not only saved the youth from becoming drug addicts, but also saved their families from daily quarrels as it is understood that a drug addict create nuisance in family and society in general.
A case under FIR Number 112/18 under Section 8/21/22 Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Satwari Police Station and investigation started to ascertain the source of the consignment and other persons indulged in this illegal trade practice.
Police team led by SHO Satwari Inspector Manjeet Singh and assisted by Incharge Belicharana Police Post SI Tariq Ahmed arrested the accused under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
