Kingpin of burglars’ gang nabbed with Rs 7 lakh stolen gold ornaments

JAMMU, July 10: Continuing its endeavour to make society crime free, Gandhi Nagar Police nabbed the kingpin of burglars’ gang and recovered stolen gold ornaments worth Rs 7 lakh from his possession.
As per police sources, several complaints regarding theft were received by Gandhi Nagar Police Station of Jammu.
In order to curb the menace of burglary from the society, a team from Gandhi Nagar Police Station was constituted, which was dispatched to Punjab after getting clue about the presence of the thief there.
When the police team was about to arrest the accused, the latter attacked the members of the police party and tried to escape. In the attack, two cops received minor injuries, but other members of the team finally nabbed the thief after a brief chase.
During questioning the accused, who happens to be the kingpin of the burglars’ gang, spilled the beans and confessed his involvements in burglary cases in Jammu and its outskirts areas.
The accused has been identified as Chandan Kumar, son of Dev Raj of Village Chalwara District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh.
On his disclosure, police recovered 22 tolas of gold ornaments valuing Rs 7 lakh. The recovered gold ornaments include 6 gold chains, 3 gold necklaces, 4 gold rings, 4 pairs gold tops, 1 pair gold jhumka, 2 pairs of payal and 1 gold natth.
Further questioning of the accused is going on to ascertain their involvement in other theft cases.
Police team led by SHO Gandhi Nagar Inspector Sunil Singh Jasrotia and assisted by Incharge Digiana Police Post SI Kali Charan and Incharge Nehru Market Police Post SI Sandeep Charak made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Mohammad Rafiq Manhas, Incharge SP South Vinay Kumar and SSP Jammu Vivek Gupta.
