SRINAGAR : The weekly Karvan-e-Aman bus, operating between Srinagar and Muzaffarabad, capital of Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK) left here on Monday for Kaman post, the last Indian military post on this side of the Line of Control (LoC) to cross over to other side of the border.
The peace bus left Bemina area of Srinagar this morning with seven passengers, including four Kashmiris going to meet their relatives, separated in 1947 partition, while three are PoK returnees who completed their stay in Kashmir, sources said.
The exact number of passengers will be known only in the afternoon after more people board it at Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC) at Uri before leaving for Kaman post on LoC in Uri sector. Similarly, passengers coming from PoK will be known in the evening, the sources said.
The weekly bus considered one of the major Confidence Building Measure (CBM) which was introduced on April 7, 2005, has helped thousands of families separated in the partition meet each other. It was also decided to allow travel of state subjects from both sides of the LoC on ” Travel Permits” instead of International passport.
Earlier, residents of Jammu and Kashmir had to travel to Delhi or Wagah to cross over to other side to meet their relatives in PoK. However, only those whose names are cleared by the intelligence agencies of both the countries are allowed in the bus. (AGENCIES)
