JAMMU, Jan 23: Establishing non-serious approach towards development of tourism spots of Jammu, the Government has failed to ensure start of work on weir/barrage at Jhajjar Kotli, which was sanctioned at a cost of Rs 7.62 crore several years back.
The construction of barrage, whose foundation stone was laid on June 19, 2010, was allotted to the Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation Ltd by Irrigation and Flood Control Department, admitted the Minister Incharge Tourism while responding to the question of National Conference MLA from Nagrota, Devender Singh Rana in the Legislative Assembly.
“Even an amount of Rs 1.80 crore was released to JKPCC Ltd for construction of this project in March 2012 but till date the JKPCC has not taken up the construction of barrage due to certain issues with National Highway Authority of India”, the Minister said.
The Minister, however, informed the House that Union Ministry of Tourism has sanctioned the project “Development of Tourist Facilities at Jhajjar Kotli” under PMDP for an amount of Rs 7.10 crore.
The project has numerous components which include iconic suspension bridge to connect main land and island, toilet block, parking with retaining wall, lighting, tourist benches, cafeteria at the island, eco log huts, gangways and floating jetty and water sports etc.
However, there was no mention about time-frame for start of work on the project.
