Grenade attack on Army, woman killed

SRINAGAR, Oct 19 : A Jaish-e-Mohammad militant commander and his associate, who were planning a Fidayeen attack in Baramulla district of North Kashmir, were killed in a brief shootout with security forces in the district today.
Militants travelling in a passenger vehicle (Scorpio-JK01-L5792) were signalled to stop at a naka at Kralhaar in Baramulla district this afternoon. The militants opened fire on joint naka party of SOG Baramulla, 52 RR of Army and 53 battalion of CRPF. Both the militants were killed in the shootout.
One AK series rifle, magazine, UBGL, two Chinese pistols, six magazines, three grenades and two UBGL grenades were recovered from the possession of the killed militants. The driver has been arrested and the vehicle seized.

A case (FIR No 176/2018) was registered at Police Station Baramulla and investigation was taken up.
Sources said that the two militants were coming from Sopore and were planning a Fidayeen attack in Baramulla district.
Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) identified the two militants as district commander Baramulla Faizan and his associate Abdul Wahab.
And a woman was killed in Shadimarg area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district this evening after shoot out when militants targeted an Army camp.
Militants fired a UBGL grenade towards an Army camp in Shadimarg this evening. Soon after the blast, there was an exchange of fire in which a woman identified as Firdousa wife of Khursheed Ahmad Sheikh of Qasbayar, Shadimarg, was injured.
She was hit by a bullet and was taken to PHC Rajpora where from she was referred to the District Hospital Pulwama. However, she succumbed to injuries there. The woman was pregnant having six months fetus.
And Army today handed over to police bodies of three out of four militants killed in forests of Boniyar Uri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday.
The bodies were handed over to the police station Boniyar. The fourth body which is lying near the LoC could not be retrieved. The bodies which were retrieved were lying at one place in a nallah and another one some distance away close to the LoC. Four AK-47 rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.
Meanwhile, at least 15 persons including two women were injured after Army men allegedly beat up inmates following an IED blast last night at Trichal area of Lassipora in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district. Seven soldiers were injured, three of them critically, in the blast which was triggered by militants when an armoured vehicle was crossing a bridge on Trichal-Lassipora road last night.
Residents alleged that at least 15 residents including two women received injuries in the Army action.. Army said that they are ascertaining facts about the alleged beating of residents.
In the meantime, clashes continued for the third consecutive day today in parts of Srinagar’s Old City where restrictions were imposed in wake of the call for protests given by the separatists.
Restrictions were imposed in the areas falling under the jurisdiction of Police Stations of Nowhatta, Safa Kadal, Mahraj Gunj, Khanyar and Rainawari. Due to the curbs, no prayers were offered for the second consecutive Friday in the Jamia Masjid of Nowhatta.
Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq lashed out at the Government for imposing restrictions on “2nd consecutive Juma & 15th of the year when Friday prayers barred at #JamaMasjid.Strict curfew imposed, people made hostages in their own homes in #ShahreKhas. No peaceful expression of protest against atrocities &injustices allowed, No law in the land except the law of #StateMight,” Mirwaiz wrote on his Twitter.
