The Finance Minister Dr Haseeb Drabu needs to be appreciated for releasing six percent Dearness Allowance in favour of the State Government employees and pensioners. However, it is quite disappointing that he has not enhanced the medical allowance from Rs 300 per month to Rs 1000 per month in favour of the pensioners.
This demand has been raised time and again but no sincere attention is paid to this plea by the Government. It may not be out of context to mention here that this paltry sum of Rs 300 is not sufficient to meet the medical needs of pensioners or employees in the present times as the cost of medicines is rising on daily basis.
The Finance Minister is once again urged to enhance the medical allowance

Sir,
The medical treatment is getting costlier year by year. For the last ten years, the doctors have been enhancing their consultation fees which is becoming unbearable. Medicines, pathology Labs, Radiological scans and other allied hospital charges are being charged exorbitantly. Private medical treatment generally amounts billing in lacs now.
About ten years back, the then Chief Minister sympathetically agreed to consider medical allowance as 1000 per month but finance Deptt in the hands of other political party could not concede this demand and so it was increased from Rs 100 to Rs 300 along with other allowances.
After attaining the age of sixty i.e on the verge of second inning of the life, the health insurance companies usually do not to renew the medical insurance and most of the companies even avoid to insure the old persons.
At this stage , medical consultancy is the prime need of the life because more than 60 percent of the body is prone to physical problems and more than 60 percent of the pension amount is usually spent as monthly recurring expenditure..and without it one cannot survive.
It is once again requested to Govt to consider enhancement of Monthly Medical Allowance in favor of state pensioners to Rs 3000/- per month immediately.
