JAMMU, Nov 2: In a petition filed by Traders Federation Ware House highlighting the problems and security risk being posed by the seized vehicles dumped on the main road by the Police Post Nehru Market, High Court today issued notice to Inspector General of Police Jammu, SSP Jammu and others returnable within two weeks.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Paras Gupta for the petition, Justice Sanjeev Kumar issued notice to the respondents with the directions to file specific report indicating as to how they proposed to deal with the old, seized, accidental and unclaimed vehicles stated to have been dumped on the main road outside the Police Post Nehru Market and adjacent to the main entry gate of Traders Federation Ware House.
In the petition, it has been submitted that Incharge Police Post Nehru Market, from the last 5-6 years, has been dumping all the accidental, seized, stolen and unclaimed vehicles on the main public road which is adjacent to the main entry gate of the Ware House market without any jurisdiction and authority to use the public road.
“Because of the dumping of the accidental, seized, stolen and unclaimed vehicles there is a lot of disturbances and hindrances on the road. Moreover, this act on the part of Nehru Market Police is obstructing the right of way of the public at large”, the petitioner said, adding “dumping of vehicles is also causing a serious security threat as any militant can plant bomb or some other kind of explosive in the mess created by the police”.
The petitioner further submitted that the scrap outside the Police Post is creating hurdles for the big trucks which come to this Mandi for loading and unloading of various goods thus aggravating to traffic jams and delay in process of loading and unloading.
“The Federation approached the higher police authorities a number of times but no action has been taken in removing the junked vehicles from outside the Police Post”, the petitioner regretted.
