HC directive to DSEK

Srinagar, Feb 23: The State High Court today directed the Director School Education Kashmir (DSEK) to comply with the directions of Court and provide all facilities to the educational institutions in the Valley.
The direction to DSEK followed after the Court came across with various insufficiencies indicated in the report filed by the DSEK. Court during the perusal of status report observed that in various schools electricity, fire extinguishers and LED bulbs have not been provided.
Besides these shortfalls, Court also came across other deficiencies in the status report. As such court asked the Amicus who has been provided the copy of status report to verify whatever has been stated in the report.
“In the meantime, Director School Education is required to comply with the directions of this court and make up the shortfalls within a period of four weeks”, directed the Division Bench of Justice Ramalingam Sudhakar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey while hearing a suo moto cognizance taken by the Chief Justice of the State about burning down of educational institutions in the Valley in last year uprising. Court ordered the matter be listed for further hearing on March 20.
Court in its directions, besides protection of educational institutions from further damage had also directed the authorities to take immediate measures for rebuilding those schools which have been burnt  down or damaged by the offenders during last year unrest.
It may be mentioned here that about 39 schools were burnt down and torched during the unrest and about 47 persons were apprehended by the police involving in the offence.
Court also emphasized on the people of the State to ensure at their level that the educational institutions in their areas are protected with the observation that like water and air, education is also an essential component of human life and for moral, spiritual and material development of a human being, education is of utmost importance
Court has reiterated that it (court) in these proceedings has shown its deep concern about the burning down of the educational institutions in various parts of the Kashmir valley and in order to ensure that educational institutions are protected from being vandalized or damaged or burnt down, issued directions from time to time.
