Govt to pay compensation to uninsured traders: Mufti

SRINAGAR, Mar 30: Government will pay proper compensation to uninsured traders, who suffered losses due to devastating floods in September, last year.
This announcement was made by Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed while talking to traders during his visit to different areas in the city today.
Mr Sayeed, who rushed from New Delhi to Srinagar after flood warning was issued following incessant rains for the past two days, toured a number of areas in the civil lines. He said the Government had decided to pay compensation to those traders who had not insured their shops during the floods.
He said the highest slab had been fixed at Rs 10 lakh, followed by Rs 5 lakh.
However, he said, the business establishments which were insured had already received compensation from insurance companies for their losses.
Jammu and Kashmir government has sought information from the shopkeepers who suffered damage in the floods.
An official spokesperson said affected traders and shopkeepers of summer capital Srinagar, having business under Rs 10 lakh and whose establishments were not insured are advised to furnish their details to the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar.
Similarly, the affectees of fully damaged uninsured houses shall furnish an undertaking to the effect of being not insured to the respective Tehsildars immediately. Destitute women who lost their residential houses along with household items as well as other means of sustenance due to floods of September, 2014 are also advised to give their details to respective Tehsildar’s immediately.
Similarly, according to Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, all those traders and shopkeepers having business under 10 lakh and whose establishments were not insured are advised to furnish their details to the office of Additional Deputy Commissioner Bandipora.
