Srinagar, Mar 20: Director General of Police (DGP), Dr  S  P Vaid today said that continuous initiatives are being taken to bring all round improvement in the functioning of State Police to serve the people better.
Dr. Vaid said this while addressing civil society members and senior citizens at Baramulla and Kupwara during his day long visit to North Kashmir districts today. He said that people’s cooperation is imperative for successful policing and the cops also have to address the concerns of the public to change their perception for the force. Various initiatives have been taken to strengthen police-public bonds and contribute together in reforming the society which is need of the hour, he added.
DGP said that Jammu and Kashmir Police has been bringing tremendous changes in its functioning making it a leading pro-people civil force. “JKP has been strengthening its functioning in order to provide better police services to the people of the State. Community policing and fight against drug menace have proved helpful in strengthening our relations with the public as the initiatives are the humane face of men in khaki which have been appreciated by the civil society at all levels”, he added.
Members of civil society and senior citizens appreciated the initiatives of JKP in eradicating the drug menace from the society and assured that the people would provide every support to the force in making the society crime free. People from Kupwara requested the DGP for establishing Police Public School to boost the education standards and cater the needs of meritorious students of remote district.
Dr. Vaid assured the people that their genuine demand would be conceded on priority and the department would use its available sources to establish a school in the district. He said that JKP is doing its social responsibility in promoting quality education in the State, besides sports and cultural values among the youth.
During his visit Dr. Vaid declared open 11th North Kashmir Sports Festival at an enthusiastic and impressive function at Baramulla.
DGP also addressed police durbars and asked the cops to brace up for public service. He said that our motto is to provide better services to the public which could determine our relations and help in maintaining rule of law in the State.
