KATHUA, Dec 16:  Director General of Police, Law and Order, Dr SP Vaid, accompanied by IG Police, Danish Rana, SP Kathua Pawan Parihar and ADC Kathua Dr Bharat Bhushan inaugurated the 7th Police Martyrs Memorial North Zone T20 Cricket Championship 2016-17, being organized by J&K Police and Shaheed Welfare Committee at Sports Stadium here in the presence of Police Martyrs families.
A rich tribute was paid to police martyrs by the DGP and citizens of Kathua.
On the occasion, Dr Vaid was introduced with players of the teams in opening tie.
As many as 16 teams drawn from North Zone are participating in the Championship.
According to the organisers, the man of series will get grand prize of Alto car and winner team will be receiving Rs 3 lakh as cash prize and runners-up team will get Rs 2.25 lakh as cash prize.
The first match was played between Kohli Cricket Club Kathua and Road Star Eleven Kashmir. Kohli Cricket Club won the match by a narrow margin of 2 runs in a thrilling finish.
Batting first, Kohli Cricket Club scored 185 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Road Star Eleven managed to score 183 runs in the allotted 20 overs. Shivam Sharma top scored with unbeaten 55 runs. He was given the cash prize of Rs 2,000 as man of the match. The winner team was presented a memento.
While paying tributes to Police Martyrs, DGP Dr SP Vaid said that our Jawans and some civil people are sacrificing lives due to militancy as Pakistan is sponsoring the proxy war in J&K.
