“The discussions focused on holy relics. However, the proposed Sub-Committee talks on May 22 was raised by some of the leaders, who wanted that instead the meeting of High Powered Committee (HPC) should be called, but Shah stressed that only religious issues should be touched in the meeting,” one of the participants told the Excelsior.
They said the Union Home Minister focused on paying respects to holy relics of Lord Buddha.
Shah also took a meeting with Ladakh Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and senior officials of the Union territory to ensure that people can have ‘darshan’ of the sacred relics of Lord Buddha for the next two weeks without any inconvenience.
In a message on X, Shah, who reached Leh today, said that Friday will be a historic day for Ladakh when people can have ‘darshan’ of the sacred relics of Lord Buddha on the auspicious occasion of Buddha Purnima.
“I consider myself fortunate that I, too, will have the rare opportunity tomorrow to have darshan of these holy relics,” Shah said in the post in Hindi.
“To ensure that these sacred relics are easily accessible for darshan by the people of Ladakh over the next two weeks, I held a meeting today with the Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh and the concerned officials in this regard,” he said.
Earlier, Amit Shah reached Leh this afternoon to attend the first-ever international exposition of holy relics of Lord Buddha in India.
Shah was received by Ladakh Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena and accorded a ceremonial welcome at the Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport in Leh. Senior officials of the police and civil administration were also present.
During his two-day visit, Shah will pay respect to the sacred relics of Lord Buddha on the Buddha Purnima, which falls on Friday.
Shah will inaugurate a series of key initiatives at a programme to be held at the Central Institute of Buddhist Studies (CIBS), Leh on Friday. Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying Rajiv Ranjan Singh alias Lalan Singh and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Vinai Kumar Saxena will also be present at the occasion.
The event will mark the inauguration and foundation-laying of multiple dairy infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing milk processing capacity, improving cold-chain systems, and expanding market linkages for local dairy farmers. The programme will also witness the launch of digital and institutional initiatives designed to modernise cooperative dairy operations in the region, an official statement said.
During the programme, it said, Shah will lay the foundation stone of a 10 TLPD dairy plant at Kargil and inaugurate new dairy processing units in Leh, including facilities for curd and paneer production. Additionally, a Bulk Milk Cooler system will be launched to strengthen milk storage and transportation infrastructure.
“Further reinforcing the vision of digital empowerment in the cooperative sector, an Android-based Automated Milk Collection System (AMCS) application will be launched to streamline procurement processes and ensure transparency in payments to farmers,” the statement said.
The programme will also feature the flagging off of a mobile milk testing laboratory, aimed at ensuring quality assurance and supporting dairy farmers at the grassroots level. A Memorandum of Understanding will be signed between key stakeholders to enhance the marketing of dairy products under prominent brands, thereby improving market access and value realisation for local producers, it added.
In line with the Government’s focus on farmer welfare and cooperative strengthening, progressive dairy farmers from the region will be felicitated during the event.
“The initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to realizing the vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi” by empowering cooperative institutions, enhancing rural livelihoods, and promoting inclusive economic growth in remote regions of the country,” the statement said.
